PROBLEMS WITH BOTH LOCAL AND STATE FUNDING FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Seven (7) of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions have reduced their per-pupil funding, and the State’s maintenance of effort (MOE) requirement has been shown to be toothless.

MARYLAND'S UNFAIR STATE AND LOCAL TAX STRUCTURE SQUEEZES HUMAN SERVICES FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE ELITE
Marylanders across the income spectrum pay about 10% of their income in State and local taxes, BUT the highest 20% of the income scale pays only 7.3%
- We have had this regressive structure for many decades.
- The property tax and sales tax are very regressive, and the State income tax is virtually flat.
Meanwhile, the recession has caused deep cuts in human services.

There is a grave danger that the 12-member Super Committee will continue the path of war and austerity. Rumors abound that the Dems on the Committee will agree to cuts in Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security and will fail to win significant cuts in military spending.

Please cancel proposed action to shut down Occupy Baltimore at McKeldin Square by limiting to only two the number of people allowed to sleep in tents or by imposing other restrictions that undermine the purpose as stated by the General Assembly of the Occupy Baltimore movement:
