Working Groups

Occupy Baltimore has working groups that organize and plan different functions. Participating in one of these groups is a great way to get involved; you're also encouraged to start your own! Working groups meet independently and report back to the general assembly.

Here are some of our currently active working groups:

Occupy Our Homes

Occupy Our Homes/Right to Housing Alliance is fighting back against foreclosures and eviction by standing with homeowners and tenants for the human right to housing. Please share your story, and get connected.

OOH meets on Wednesday nights at 6:30PM. To contact OOH-Baltimore directly, please email occupybaltimorehomes@gmail.com

Schools Not Jails

Schools Not Jails is targeted specifically at the school-to-prison pipeline' in Baltimore. Its January action targeted a planned youth jail, and may have been successful in halting construction. Check out their website.

Occupy 4 Jobs

Occupy 4 Jobs fights for full employment for everyone. In Baltimore, the group is partnering with Southern Christian Leadership Conference to engage in civil rights struggles. The national Occupy4Jobs network has a website and a Twitter.

Occupy 4 Jobs is connected to the campaign to save Read's Drug Store and transform the historic building into a civil rights museum (Facebook).

Committee meetings are generally held every other Wednesday at 7PM, @ 2011 N. Charles St. Baltimore, MD 21218.

Outreach

Outreach spreads the word about Occupy Baltimore through phone calls, fliers, and more. It's currently working on a presentation that can be given to community groups. The outreach group also helps other working groups to promote their actions. Send the outreach committee an email at: occupybmoreoutreach@gmail.com.

Remember: at the end of the day, we're all on outreach!

Media

The media group meets sporadically and sometimes in pieces, but it's a crucial element of the effort. It deals mostly with our online presence. To get in touch with Media, you can send an email, tweet, or Facebook message.

Finance

The Finance committee maintains our WePay account, and handles our money in general. You can email them to get information or volunteer to help out.

The OccupyBaltimore Library

The OccupyBaltimore library has a large website that offers a wide variety of resources. We always need people to bring new articles and lists of resources to put up. We also offer a roving library where we bring books to each Occupy action. This is a way to be involved if you aren't able to get out often, or if you want to contribute online. If interested just send an email to ocbmorelib@gmail.com.

Peace Warriors

The Peace Warriors are committed to transformation. Spreading ideas, images, information, through direct action, this group spreads the message that another world IS possible. They meet sporadically but for more information contact bemm14@gmail.com

School of Occupy

The School of Occupy is a working group dedicated to finding unique solutions to issues regarding energy (investment & sustainability), employment, & education. We are currently not meeting.

Comments

I am interested in the School of Occupy working group, and would like to attend a meeting to see if it's a fit for me. I am a dinosaur with very limited computer savvy, but hope I can be of some help to Occupybmore. I don't see a SOC meeting listed on the general calendar, although it seems you meet weekly. Can you tell me the time and location?

Hey barbwire, information is being posted about the SOC on a more consistent basis for now. It's a small group and they're working out the communication issues, but their overall contact information has been updated.

Hello Occupiers!
I have a farm just south of Thurmont and I am considering opening it up to campers who are planning to attend events pertaining to the G8 summit at Camp David on May 18-20. If you are in need of a place to base, please contact me:
